Story
In April I will be running the Manchester Marathon to raise money for Sefton Baby Baskets, who are a local charity that provide essential items to in need Mum’s and families across the city.
Sefton Baby Baskets is a non profit volunteer led charity which numerous members of my family are involved in. It is a charity that aims to help new mums and families who are struggling to provide for their new baby. My Mum set up the charity in 2020 and since then demand for their baskets has increased exponentially. Seeing the dedication my Mum puts into the charity daily and the impact she has on the lives of new babies and families makes me proud everyday.
The charity provide a Moses basket containing essential items for the first three months of the newborn’s life. The basket contains items such as clothes, nappies, sleeping bags, toiletries, muslins, toys, etc. There are pyjamas, slippers and some toiletries for the mothers too.
To ensure the baskets reach those that need them most, the organisation works through a referral system from midwives, health visitors, social workers and other groups/organisations providing help and support. In 2023 they provided 359 baskets as well as other items to mums and families in need, and so far this year have already given out 92.
The charity is volunteer led by my Mum and an amazing group of people who dedicate countless hours of their time to organise community donations and put together the baskets for those in need. With the funds I hope to raise, the charity will be able to buy brand new basket mattresses and toiletry packs for both mum and baby.
