    Story

This amazing boy is called Oliver; he is 8 years old and is my nephew.

He has been recently diagnosed with (MDS) Myelodysplastic Syndrome. This is as a result of a very complicated genetic condition relating to his GATA2 gene, which may have accounted for some of the other issues he’s had to contend with since birth, predominantly his loss of hearing.

He is continuing to put a brave face on everything whilst going through his blood and platelet transfusions, to keep him going whilst a donor was being found.

They have found a 9/10 donor match. (Not perfect, but we are hopeful) Oliver will need to undergo a bone marrow transplant starting in January.

This will entail him moving to Bristol Hospital for 9 days of chemotherapy followed by living in an isolation ward for 3-4 weeks, before another 6 weeks or so of reduced isolation at Sam’s house, in which we pray it works and he can then return home.

Due to the complexity of this condition and the lack of understanding of it, this is just the start of his life long journey to recovery.

To help with his journey, I am looking for sponsorship/raffle prizes to assist Oliver and his family through this treatment, and for further attempts, should his treatment not work this time.
Also it will help awareness for the other children who have this extremely rare condition (4 only in the UK).

Oliver has been discharged from ward 34 and is back in the CLIC Sargent Sam's House. After a number of worrying symptoms and many tests we are not 100% sure of what just happened but what we do know is Oliver is feeling better and his blood products have stabilized. In addition Oliver has remained up beat and focused on causing as much mischief as possible. The journey continues and memories continue to be made by all the inspirational people which are helping along the way. Thank you to all of you for your donations and kind messages Team B X

Just a quick update guys, unfortunately after a really good week following his birthday and visits from grandparents, Rob and Aunty Clare, Oliver has picked up an infection which has resulted in him having to return to ward 34 in the hospital for a few days to take on some antibiotics and other medication to fight it. Hopefully this is a minor blip and he will be back on track soon. Please keep sharing and caring as your wonderful support really does make a difference.

Well a slightly unexpected early start to the day do to Oliver unfortunately bringing up his feeding tube at 4.45 this morning, however that hasn't dampened his spirits. After a quick trip to the hospital to fit another, he was ready to enjoy his 9th Birthday in full. Daddy and Benjamin have been up for a couple of days which makes it even better. Thank you for all your lovely messages, videos and cards, it's time to open these presents and have some fun.
