On 30th June 2024, in conjunction with Mountfield Rovers Junior Football Club, we are organising a Footballathon.
During the Footballathon we aim play continuous football from 8am to 6pm (8-6) in recognition of the amazing work carried out by the staff on Ward 86 Oncology at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
Our Story...
On the 8th November 2023, our lives were turned upside down when Oliver came home from school complaining of a sore leg. Less than 24 hrs later we were told he had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) and he was being rushed to Manchester Oncology to have a Platelet transfusion and start Chemotherapy.
He has been receiving high dose Chemotherapy at Ward 86 Oncology of the Manchester Royal Children's Hospital for 6 months now.
Oliver has been amazing, he has met the considerable challenges head on. He takes General Anaesthetics, Lumbar Punctures, Bone Marrow scrapes, Cannulas, Tablets, Internal Lines, Chemotherapy, loosing his hair and the effects of Steroids, all in his stride. He has been an inspiration to us all.
The care he has received on Ward 86 has been outstanding and almost beyond words. Loving and professional, courteous and knowledgeable. They have made us feel welcome, reassured and very grateful. They are downright amazing and we are all very lucky to have such a world class facility very close to us.
As is always the case, they never have enough money and Oliver has asked if we could do some events to try and raise some money for the Ward to say thankyou for their care to date. So here were are...
