Story

This is Olivia Rose Tonnessen; our beautiful, funny clever daughter who died unexpectedly and tragically at the age of 2 years old.

Olivia was recently diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome, a kidney disorder, which while serious shouldn't have resulted in her death.

We sat our beautiful girls down on Tuesday 22nd November to tell them that their beloved nanny Kath had passed away and within 24 hours we were at Olivias side when the doctors sat us down and told us she had had a catastrophic bleed on the brain and was gone.

Believing that some good should come from this senseless loss we agreed to a beating heart donation. For those that don't know what this means I pray you never have to.

We stayed with Olivia with the wonderful staff of ICU pod 3 at Alder Hey until she could be tested for brain stem death and once confirmed and a further agonising 24 hours before making our last walk together to theatre where we handed our amazing little star over.

Leaving the hospital was honestly the hardest thing we've ever had to do; our legs physically wouldn't walk us through the door.

We awoke that morning not knowing that our world was about to come crashing down; and somewhere else in the UK was another family who didn't know they were about to be given the greatest gift there is; life.

We are raising funds to be shared between the Alder Hey Kidney fund and also the Alder Hey bereavement team who's amazing service has allowed us to find some comfort in what is the darkest of times.

There's more to Olivias story; maybe Jayne will update this page in the coming days; it's late and I'm so tired, endless tiredness.

Thank you for reading.
