Story
For those of you that do not know Oscar personally, take it from us- he is a ray of sunshine! Oscar had a very difficult start in life resulting in bilateral, dystonic Cerebral Palsy. Despite the fact that he cannot support the weight of his head for prolonged periods, formulate words easily, sit, stand or walk unaided- he is the most inspirational little boy we have ever met. He recently won a Yorkshire Children of Courage' award for his determination and passion to be independent. He never ever gives in and will not let barriers get in his way despite his limited mobility.
We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to take Oscar to Canada next summer for a 5 week intensive therapy programme L.I.F.E (Learning Independent Function Everyday). Health in Motion specialises in pediatric treatment and rehabilitation. It is designed as a specialised education and rehabilitation system for children with neurological conditions such as Cerebral Palsy.
This intensive programme could give Oscar the chance to learn to move himself into a comfortable position if he falls or rolls. It could allow him to push himself up to sit; It may enable him to sit unaided or even learn to crawl, stand or take independent steps. The therapy lasts up to 5 hours per day over a month and then the therapy will continue at home.
Every child deserves the chance to be the best that they can be- that path is different for Oscar but still achievable as long as we give him the right opportunities and tools to succeed.
To show how important this is to us, Oscar's parents, friends and family are taking part in Yorkshire Warrior on the 30th April 2017- a gruelling 10 mile obstacle course to raise money for this worthwhile cause.
