Story

Written by Pauline, Plot 127

We are appealing for money for Oscar who is a much loved stray cat on the Albemarle Allotments in Withington. He recently badly injured his front left leg and needs ongoing treatment.

The Story of Oscar

We first met Oscar on our community plot in 2018. He was small but with big smiling cheeks, and evidently wild. He was sleeping in some grass near our composting. We became fond of him but then he disappeared for some months and we did not know if we'd ever see him again.

A few months later he re-appeared, still small and wild, and we began feeding him regularly and formed a feeding rota. Not being neutered he would sometimes chase females across the estate (we believe there are many local Oscarlites). In 2020, a vet friend offered to neuter Oscar and give him a free health check. According to him, Oscar had always been wild and was about 10 or 11 years old (meaning he’s about 14) The female chasing ceased and he got cuddlier, and cuddlier (aka bigger), as all who know him have noticed.

Oscar has become famous across the allotments, accompanying us as we work our plots, loved by all, and even having his own pathway, ‘Oscar's Way,’ that has a 'street sign' with a beautiful painting of him.

On Wed 31st Jan, two regular Oscar feeders found him injured; his left leg was not functioning and he was in pain. Since then, he’s had various vet visits and the latest prognosis is that he has nerve damage in his left 'shoulder'. He is vulnerable and so he is staying at my house and going for (almost) daily ‘hobbly’ walks on the allotment.

Oscar's ongoing care and safety could be quite expensive and no individual can cover this. So, we are aiming to raise £1000 to see us over this immediate period. Thank you for your love of Oscar and your support.
