Oscar was born on the 31/7/16 and seemed to be the most content and happy baby on the ward! Oscar was feeding well, weeing well, breathing well, had a perfect temperature and was doing super but just couldn't seem to poo. It got too day 3 and Oscar still couldn't poo and had been sick bright green bile the evening before, we suddenly were taken to The NICU and an ambulance was called to transfer us to Southampton Children's Hospital. Within a few hours we were rushed over to Southampton and Oscar was taken for an emergancy operation (after X-Ray's) they thought he either had a blockage his bowel or needed it rejoining together! After what seemed like the long gets wait of our lives Oscar was finally out of surgery and we got the news that he had a bad blockage and needed 1/3 of his bowel removing and had to be cleaned out because of what the expected was caused by Cystic Fibrosis. He spent a few days at the PICU (they were absolutely amazing!!!) before being transferred back over to the NICU. We had to wait for 8 days for his CF results but we had a fairly sure idea of what they would be so prepared for that. Oscar does have cystic fibrosis so will need life long extra care and treatments and prevention's to keep him healthy without the care he's had so far in Southampton and the research the Cystic Fibrosis Trust have done and continue to do things wouldn't be very different for Oscar and us. We have also been incredibly lucky to have the Ronald McDonald House to call home and mean we can stay as close to our boy as possible and not have to go what would seem to us like a million miles away and back each day and night. RMHC has meant we can be with Oscar any minute of the day or night and are not left feeling awful because we're not with him or able to get to him in a hurry.
For this we will forever be grateful! They have saved our little boys life 💙
