Story
On 21st of July 2023 PC Perry Lathwood was tasked by the Metropolitan Police Service to assist Transport for London Revenue protection team in checking bus tickets in Whitehorse Road in Croydon.
Ms Jocelyn Agyemang refused to show her ticket to the TFL employees and then refused to show her ticket to police and was as a result arrested by PC Lathwood. In the course of the arrest as she tried to walk away, PC Lathwood took a hold of her arm and handcuffed her.
Deputy Senior District Judge Tan Ikram found PC Lathwood guilty of assault and sentenced him to a fine and costs amounting to £2950.
There are a number of social, political and community issues that have allowed this conviction to happen. This crowdfund is not intended to be a political statement.
This crowdfund is simply looking to support the individual officer whom, many would argue, was simply doing his job and now faces the financial hardships of not only the fines, but going forward possible dismissal. On a personal level this case has caused PC Lathwood an immense amount of stress and understandable hardship.
Police Officers in London do an extremely difficult job and are increasingly doing so unsupported by the establishment. It is an unfortunate situation that it falls on us to show our support where we can. Please give what you can to support PC Lathwood in this incredibly stressful time.
All money raised will go directly to PC Lathwood.
