Story

In a world that thrives on creativity, art should be a universal language, accessible to all. Welcome to The Space, a thriving community arts venue nestled in the heart of Glasgow's historic East End. For eight remarkable years, People Without Labels has nurtured this haven, united by the belief that everyone deserves a place to create, regardless of labels or limitations.

Yet, our mission reaches far beyond providing a space—it's a movement driven by the passion of disabled artists who understand the hurdles too well. We're determined to dismantle the barriers that restrict artistic expression. Our extensive research has guided us to a pivotal moment—the launch of 'ArtStudios Unlabelled': a game-changing 6-month pilot project poised to redefine art accessibility.

Differently abled artists face a myriad of challenges—exorbitant transportation costs, limited public transit access, and the persistent concerns of COVID-19. These obstacles stifle their creative potential. That's where we step in.

Our solution is elegantly simple—a 6-seater van and a dedicated driver who'll journey to wherever the artist resides, overcoming geographical barriers. We're making artistic freedom as accessible as the creative spirit itself.

But our vision extends further. Within our studio, a world of artistic wonders awaits. Our studio booking system is stocked with high-quality art supplies and equipment, all available at a discounted Pay-What-You-Can (PWYD) rate. We're removing the financial shackles, allowing artists to immerse themselves in their craft.

Yet, our commitment doesn't end there. We recognize that differently abled artists may need specialised guidance in mastering modern technology. That's why we're offering one-on-one professional tuition, tailored to their specific needs. From mastering 3D printing to conquering Photoshop, we're empowering artists to unleash their full creative potential.

Our project primarily serves individuals with mental and invisible disabilities due to our current building's limitations and the project's duration. However, we view this initiative as a stepping stone. Our vision includes setting up accessible pods across the city, expanding our reach to those in need.

Our ultimate goal is unwavering—to welcome differently abled artists into The Space, not as outsiders, but as cherished contributors. Although we acknowledge significant challenges ahead, we're committed to this transformative journey. Our community dreams of seeing the Glasgow arts scene flourish, embracing every individual, labels, or limitations aside.

This pilot project heralds a new era for our charity, where we fearlessly address critical questions: How can we enhance accessibility for all? What are the barriers we must surmount? How can we provide inclusive creative opportunities for a marginalised group often overlooked in the art world?

But we can't embark on this journey alone. We need your support to turn this vision into reality. We require funding and the expertise of highly qualified staff to make this project a resounding success. Join us in our JustGiving campaign for "ArtStudios Unlabelled."

Together, let's break down the barriers, elevate the arts community, and ensure that every individual feels genuinely welcome and included at The Space. Support our crowdfunding campaign today and become an integral part of this transformative journey. Remember: No one belongs here more than you.
