In Summer 2026 we (20 Howden School pupils) are travelling to Peru for 4 weeks. This incredible opportunity isn't just about exploration, it s a chance to make a real difference in the lives of local communities and wildlife in Peru. We will be getting stuck in to a lot of project work, and offering important support to those who need it and helping to protect the wildlife of Peru.

We will also undertake the Trek, a 5 day trek to the iconic Machu Picchu located in the Peruvian Alps. We will be taking the Salkantay trek instead of the more famous Inca trail because it has a wider variety of nature such as walking through the cloud forest which is part of the Amazon Rainforest and also walking through snowy mountains and steep rocky mountains until finally reaching the final destination Machu Picchu.
