Pewley Meadows Viewfinder Appeal
Friends of Pewley Meadows are raising funds for a Viewfinder for the high point in Pewley Meadows to enhance the enjoyment of the northerly views for many years to come.

Pewley Meadows (33 acres), with Pewley Down, form a chalk grassland ridge only a 15-minute walk from Guildford town centre. Pewley Meadows were originally farmland and were acquired in May 2021 after an intense three-week fund-raising campaign by the Friends of Pewley Meadows in partnership with our generous lead donor, Julia Stephenson. Surrey Wildlife Trust have entered into a 500-year lease to manage the site.
The aim is for the site to be restored and enhanced to become an excellent example of a species-rich chalk grassland and an important local green space with public access. Importantly, the site will act as a link between adjacent Rosamund Meadows and Pewley Down, home to many rare species, in essence creating one large reserve.
The high point of Pewley Meadows forms a natural viewpoint with a wide panorama to the north. We plan to have some seating there with a viewfinder to identify the landmarks, both near and far. This will compliment other information about the wildlife and chalk grassland management. The Viewfinder will be a mounted, diagrammatic representation of notable landmarks from those within Guildford to high points on the Chiltern Hills.
The estimated cost of an attractive, durable viewfinder is around £4,500, which we would very much like to be able to commission. The photo shows an example. We hope to be able to commission the project within the next few months. We intend to use up to £2,000 from Friends of Pewley Meadows existing funds.
Please note as we are not a registered charity, gift aid cannot be claimed back.
Friends of Pewley Meadows would be delighted if you are able to contribute to our Viewpoint Appeal to enable us to commission a long lasting and attractive viewfinder to be enjoyed by generations to come.
