Story
This year Phil and Andrew Reid will be participating in the Belfast Marathon. Phil hoping to complete the race and Andrew taking part in a relay. They both hope to raise funds in support of a charity called SPORTS Mental Health NI.
Phil Reid aged 63 has been an integral part of Belvoir Park Golf Club for 47 years. A former competitive runner for Willowfield Harriers until 1995, Phil took a lengthy sabbatical before lacing up his running shoes again to support his son, Andrew, during a challenging time in his life.
When Andrew faced struggles with his mental health, Phil suggested they tackle the "Couch to 5K" running program together. This decision marked a positive turning point, transforming their running journey into a vital step towards recovery and well-being
SPORTS MHNI are a charity who encourage sports clubs to promote and raise awareness of mental health and suicide prevention. In return, the charity provide sports clubs with FREE Mental Health Training and also make available counselling services for their members.
