Story

The Pitsford Pirates are an enthusiastic group of 8-16 years old sailors and windsurfers based at Northampton Sailing Club. Led by instructor volunteers, and ex-Pirates, our passion is seeing young people embrace the water sports we love. This year saw 75 children sign up to learn and train week after week since May, whatever the weather. We've had a range of experience take part, from complete beginners, to improvers and racers; taking children from water trepidation to absolute water confidence and building some fantastic friendships along the way! Previous seasons’ training bore fruit this year as we consistently fielded a Midlands Youth dinghy race team with people taking part in every event. In addition our windsurfing team have just won the Oxford and Regional Junior Championship and placed 2nd in the Regional Junior League. These are fantastic results and show just what can be achieved with the steady commitment and support of Pirates, leaders, family and friends.

We are so proud of the way our youth sailors and windsurfers have improved this year and with our aim to give our youth skills and experiences they can draw on for life we need to continuously improve and maintain the kit we have available. To do this we need to raise additional funds and so we are giving the Pirates a rather unique challenge!

Inspired by the Paris Olympics, we introduce… the Pirate Pentathlon!

On Sunday 13 October the Pitsford Pirates will compete against each other in 5 different events all based at NSC and inspired by the Modern Pentathlon. Our intrepid sailors will be challenged, whatever the conditions on the day, with a mix of on-shore and on the water activities. It will be tough, it will probably be cold, it will definitely be wet! It should be fun too, at least for the referees!

Please support our challenge and reward their efforts by donating to our JustGiving page. Your support is so very much appreciated - thank you!
