ABOUT THE PROJECT:

We have been working in partnership with Manchester charity MASH (Manchester Action on Street Health) over the past 12 weeks on a creative project.

MASH is a charity providing a range of confidential and non-judgemental services to women working in the sex industry in Greater Manchester.

MASH aims to help keep female sex-workers safe and healthy and empower them to make real choices about their lives. They run outreach sessions and have a drop-in centre. The centre provides a range of services including a sexual health clinic, needle exchange, therapeutic services and life skills support.

Poison Apple's project has 2 strands:

1. The creation of a new piece of theatre exploring on-street sex work, written and performed by Poison Apple Theatre with input from MASH staff and service-users

2. A series of Creative Writing workshops for service-users at MASH resulting in the publication of a short booklet of original poems and artwork

We have a small grant from the Arts Council's Grants for the Arts scheme, but we are required to raise around £200 ourselves. This money will go directly towards the publication of the booklet. The booklet will be launched at the end of November as part of MASH's 25th anniversary celebrations.

For most of the service-users the creation of the booklet adds real value to their participation as it is a chance for them to see their work in print. The booklet will then be used by MASH to raise awareness of their charity.

Every penny really does help, and the more we raise the more high-quality booklets we can produce.
