Story
This maize mill and the warehouse (pictured above) will benefit 500 families (+/- 2,500 people) in a district of Mozambique called Mandimba. They will be part of a “Meal a Day” project called Kukula.
The community will pay in flour (5% of ground maize) to use this mill. This flour payment will then be donated to a local school (Joho) that benefits from the Kukula Project and will provide two meals a week for up to 300 children. On the other days the children will benefit from a balanced diet by eating rice and pasta.
A donation of 40USD (£32) would end up paying for a child to have 2 maize meals per week over a 12 month period. Money raised will also go towards constructing a 'live barn'. This will be made from planted trees and provide shelter for the children at meal times.
This school is run by a local charity, providing free school meals to encourage children to attend school. This project has been running for 15 months. In this time the school has seen a 1040% increase in school attendance rates.
