Mia was born with a rare genetic condition and struggled with the things that many of us take for granted like walking and eating. She was a loving and sociable little girl, who touched the hearts of those around her with her infectious laugh and cheeky games. Every year Mia met with children from the Progeria Family Circle where she received as much love as she gave in equal measure.
Your donation will help many other children like Mia to enjoy feeling part of a loving family community.
Progeria is a genetically determined condition, and one of the most drastic ageing diseases. Since 1886, the year in which Progeria was first described in medical literature, and the discovery of a missing code on the LMNA gene in 2003, a total of 150 children with Progeria have been examined and described. Since then, a genetic test is available, and a growing number of children with comparable symptoms are diagnosed with a related ageing disease, also caused by faults in the LMNA gene.
