    Story

Orlando is 83 years old. He is one of nearly 8000 men and women who live and sleep on the streets of Rome. He cannot afford a roof over his head. He sleeps in a dirty and dark corner underneath a concrete flyover by Rome's Tiburtina station. Orlando's friend and carer, Roberto, is 50, he is also homeless and sleeps in the same place. Roberto fears that Orlando will not survive this winter on the streets. The mornings are bitterly cold, they sleep little, and have nothing to do all day long. If we can get them both into an apartment, at a cost of around £500 a month, Roberto will also have a chance to get work. He will have an address and a base, he will be able to keep himself well presented and in time, earn money and find their own place. Meanwhile, Orlando will be comfortable and safe. We would put up to two others in the apartment with them, giving a total of four men a chance of a new life, a new start. Our aim is to support them through the winter and re-asses things in March 2017, by which time these guys will start to be self-supporting.

      Update from the Page owner

Very many thanks to the lovely people who donated money to help us get 83 homeless Italian, Orlando into warm, secure accommodation and off the street. We are searching for an apartment now and meanwhile he is safe in the Project Rome House, where he is staying temporarily. He has just been to hospital with a nasty chest infection, so fortunately we're able to care for him and ensure he doesn't return to sleeping out doors. THANK YOU again for your help and support for him, you can continue to donate at www.project-rome.org/donate

After just ONE day we have raised over 10% of our target. Huge thanks to those who have already given. To those who haven't, just 10 euros will help us get four men off the streets this winter. xx
