Story
On the 3rd March, QUB Rowing athletes will be undertaking our biggest challenge yet! Individual or teams of rowers will be be aiming to complete 135km, the distance from North to South of Northern Ireland in just one day! We are hoping to cover a total distance of over 3 million metres! Athletes will complete this distance in boats on the water, on rowing machines, on bikes or by foot.
Any money raised will be split 50/50 between Northern Ireland's breast cancer charity and our boat club.
The charity was founded in 2006 and is led by a small team of volunteers. It is Northern Ireland's only registered Breast Cancer charity. The organisation supports breast cancer patients and their families by providing practical support and they also aim to advance breast cancer awareness and breast care across NI. We are very excited to support such an amazing cause!
Rowing at Queen's is a massive aspect of student life. The club is forever growing, and every year we challenge ourselves more and more. At QUB Rowing, we support student athletes in achieving their sporting goals while striving for academic success. In 2022, we ranked 3rd overall university at the British University Rowing Championships (BUCS). This result was thanks to having an excellent programme for both beginner and experienced rowers, many of which have gone to race for Ireland and Great Britain internationally.
50% of the money raised from this event will allow our club to continue supporting its incredibly hard working student athletes and help them in their rowing and university journey.
We are incredibly grateful for any support you can offer. In the lead up to the event we will be posting updates on our social media pages so please follow at @qubrowing on instagram to view our progress! Family and friends are also welcome to attend the boatclub on the morning of the event to support and for some refreshments. Hope to see you there!
Best wishes,
Sam, QUBLBC Fundraising Officer
