Story
The Labour Campaign to End Homelessness has been up and running now for a year! The campaign was founded with the aim that we would endeavour to have direct involvement in the complete eradication of homelessness in the UK through influencing governmental policy and demanding that The Labour Party pledge to end homelessness in their 2020 manifesto. We can't expect homeless people to wait whilst we attempt to convince politicians that having a home should be viewed as a fundamental human right. We need to feed and clothe them as best we can. We have walked from St Pancras to Oxford Circus giving out food, clothes and toilteries on a weekly basis and we now have a hot food stall outside Zimbabwe House on The Strand where we feed 100 + people a week. We're happy we can do this much but we're aware it's not nearly enough. We've relied heavily on our volunteers buying supplies every week and we're now struggling to be the sustainable and reliable group that we ought to be for people. That's where you come in!
Students at Royal Holloway University will be sleeping rough for an evening on the 27th January 2017 to experience just an idea of what homeless people experience on a daily basis and to raise some cash. They're fundraising so we have a pot of money to dip into to buy ingredients for our dishes, clothes and toiletries to give out as well as any equipment we need as the demand for more hot food stalls across London grows. We will keep you updated on exactly where and what your money is being spent on every week and the people you'll be helping to feed. We cannot thank you enough for your generosity in helping us improve the evenings of London's homeless people.
