Story
I am running 10k to raise money for the amazing charities that supported us at the worst time of our lives! In October 2023, Isabelle had a cold and after a few days she did not seem herself. I took her to A and E and expected to be sent home, particularly since arriving at the hospital she had perked up!
Unfortunately, she dramatically and suddenly took a turn for the worse and needed a constant supply of oxygen. Within 3 hours of being at the hospital a crash cart was called and we had to wait in a waiting room for news on our beautiful girl - not knowing if she would make it through the night. In those moments we were supported by the amazing hospital team.
Isabelle was placed on a ventilator and we as parents had to wait. Benji and Beyond came to our rescue and provided us with essentials we needed to survive – such as a toothbrushes, fidget toys, food and colouring books to keep the mind focused.
Isabelle had RSV a common cold that had collapsed her lung and left her on a ventilator needing constant oxygen for just over a week. In that time, we were given a room at Ronald McDonald's and PICU supported us with constant food, drinks and emotional support.
Nurses used their own money to buy hair clips and brushes so they could keep our baby looking like her usual self. This was a beautiful thing to see rather than just wires!
Unfortunately, in December we had to return for another stay because Isabelle’s lungs were still not strong enough to deal with a cold. Throughout this time the medical professionals were amazing and now our beautiful, sassy, determined and strong Isabelle is ready to say to thank you by getting her mummy to run a race!
We as a family want to thank the charities by providing them with some more money to support other families with and hope if you have read this far you will click the donate button. We will be splitting the money we raise between the charities and buying some accessories for the nurses to use that may give other parents hope.
