Story

In 2015 ROKT was hit by the devastating boxing day floods. This caused significant damage and weeks in lost business. However our wonderful community came out in force to help out on the day to support with the clean up operation and then the slow journey to our recovery.

Following on from 2015 we have put in the best flood measures possible. Strong flood doors, tanking systems and pumping mechanisms. However we were not sure how effective these would be until we were tested. The elements tested us on February 9th, we took all precautions possible.

Today we have discovered that there is significant damage, albeit less than 2015 because of our flood resilience. However being next to the weir, the sheer volume of water from the upper valley and being located on an old mill site, the ground floor has been hit hard.

A message from one of our parents, Lisa Scully “We consider ROKT climbing centre a community hub, my daughter Sydney has been climbing here since she was young. I have seen first-hand the incredible way in which the climbing community supports development of not just climbing skills, but skills for life, bringing together young and old, regardless of ability, everyone wants you to succeed. Sydney has made great friends, developed confidence and emotional resilience that has been supported and enhanced by the ROKT Community”

In true Calder style we will NOT be beaten and want to get back up and running ASAP. We are exploring funding opportunities and understand that there will be some sort of flood fund available, however this will need to be match funded. With this in mind we have set up a crowd funding page to help.

We have put a suggested limit of £7.5k which will help significantly in our efforts and any donation would be gratefully received.
