Story
Following popular demand, Rotherhithe Illuminated! is raising £2,000 to continue lighting St Mary’s Church spire & clock faces and the Christopher Jones memorial for a further five years.
These much-loved illuminations ensure that this historic church spire and clock faces
are visible from London Bridge, Tower Bridge, from the Thames Path, from across the river in Wapping, and from boats and ships travelling along the river at night.
St Mary’s is an 18th century Grade II listed church, and its beautifully lit spire and clock faces have become a distinctive landmark and waymark from every direction. They serve to celebrate and commemorate Rotherhithe’s rich history.
The subtle lighting also highlights the architectural details of the church and the Christopher Jones memorial after dusk. It helps to make the surrounding public realm more engaging, and it fosters community wellbeing and pride of place.
Please support our campaign and help us keep Rotherhithe illuminated for another five years!
