Since the start of the civil war 5 years ago, 4.8 million people have fled Syria in search of safety. Around 10% of whom are now in Europe. The Greek Islands receive around 500 arrivals per day to any of the 36 camps there.

The Syrian American Medical Association (SAMS) is a non-profit humanitarian organisation that provides primary health care at some of these camps, as well as camps in Turkey, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. In 2015, they treated 2.6 Million people and delivered over 24 thousand babies at their camps.

Many of their clinics are staffed by volunteer medics from around the world. My friend Ayesha (GP) and I (midwife) are excited to be volunteering with SAMS Global response medical missions, at Thessaloniki, Northern Greece.
