    Story

SAOF was formed in 2008 and presently run Health workshops and seminars on Breast Cancer and other related topics both in the UK and across many states in Nigeria.

The work of the Foundation is to raise awareness of early detection and provide information on prompt treatment and possible cure to people irrespective of their religion, ethnic background or tribe.

Dr. Oduwaiye lost his mother to this dreadful disease at a very early age. and this personal tragedy has been his motivation for co- founding SAOF as a vehicle for raising awareness of breast cancer so that fewer families will lose loved ones to a disease that can be prevented or cured if detected early. A late diagnosis of breast cancer in Nigeria will almost certainly amount to death in a country where 70% of the population live on less than $2 a day.

SAOF seek to provide information and education to women, particularly those of the most vulnerable group between the ages of 20 and 49 who according to our research are potential carriers of breast cancer. We provide information on breast cancer through leaflets, magazines, television programmes, radio and the social media. Most importantly we take our campaign to the poor and illiterate who do not have access to these media. We arrange cancer awareness meetings in villages, communities, churches, mosques and schools, through outreaches. We also provide emotional and financial support to people living with breast cancer on what can only be described as a shoestring budget.

There is so much that we can still do with the very experienced medical professionals we have to improve the survival rate of cancer among women in Nigeria and the UK.

To raise funds for the Foundation Anthony Conner from Southend will be doing a sponsored walk from Southend in Essex to Walsingham in Norfolkk, a distance of approx. 140 miles. The walk will commence in Southend on Saturday 27th May and finish on Friday 2nd June 2017.

We wish him good luck and good weather.
