Story
Myself and Leanne are mum's with children with additional needs. we are both at different stages in our journey but both very early stages yet we have had to battle so hard to get the right support in place for our children. some days are so painful from tears and meltdowns to red tape we have to get through. We have both used kids services to further our knowledge on our children's needs and diagnoses. we have reached out to much needed sleep support because neither of us was getting any. they have helped us learn about the world of SEN. It is so overwhelming for a parent to come to terms of their child's needs and to navigate the through live, adapt your surroundings to ensure your child is happy aswell as safe. KIDS have been there for us and so many more famlies . Personaly kids have held my hand through so many heart breaking moments and refused to let me walk alone. They stood by me and my family. They made sure each and everyone of us was doing ok during the most challenging times and was there vitualy during lockdown, on the door step, garden visits check ins. came to meetings offered advise support, a shoulder to cry on. they helped pick up the 1000 of peices we broke into and help mend us made us stronger than ever.
I personaly have worked with Life skills nearly 2 years now. LSH have stepped in when mainstream education couldn't cater to my daughters needs. They came to us soon after my daughter was admitted to hospital as a result of her severly hurting herself that we had no other choice other than to walk into hospital and beg for help. we was broken. We started to think we lost our little girl. she was sad and angry all the time. her anger was so uncontrolable the Dr's had to sedate her like an animal multiple times. after nearly a month in hospital we finaly got her some help. we was able to bring her home we tried to adjust back into our old routine and get her back to nursery but despite their best efforts they could not meet her needs so as a result was not able to access a setting. Then a ray of sun shine came into our lives. LSH starting working with the whole family at home. working on all of our wellbeing not just my daughters. We slowly built up trust with the team and now they are apart of my family. each and everyone of them past and present. they have put the smile back on all our faces. i will forever be in their debt. i owe everything to kids and LSH more than they will ever know.
Leanne and I wanted to raise awarness of the sen community. We want to do that and raise money for these amazing people that have such an impact not only on us but all the people that they help and will help in the future. It is so scary at the start of this journey. To have people in your corner shouting with you holding your hand it makes a whole lot of difference.
