Currently living in Malawi, I have had the pleasure of meeting Godknows Maseko. Godknows has lived in Malawi all his life, and, having been a street child himself, opened STEKA, a home in Blantyre for children. They take three groups of children; girls who have been subject to abuse, street children, and children who have been dumped or abandoned.
The home has been up and running since 2007, and as of right now there are 56 children living on the premises. On site they have a nursery, and following the nursery nearly all of their children experience secondary and high school schooling in the city.
Now Godknows is facing a new challenge in his journey; what will happen to these children when it is time for them to move on? A few of the children have managed to get into university, but Godknows knows that not all of them will be so lucky, and so he is setting out to create a vocational school near the house where the children can go after high school and learn skills that will help them get jobs in the city.
Each block will cost about £7, 500 to build, so any donation would be so appreciated, no matter how small.
