Doncaster Women's Aid had its funding cut last year and lost its service that had been running for forty years, all its resources were lost. A really heroic campaign was fought by local women, staff and service users and they won a small grant from the council. They are running off £30,000 to pay for everything. This pays for 3 part time and 2 volunteers. This initial funding runs out in December 2017.
The staff at the service are trainers, advisers, admin staff and fundraisers all in one. The service is once again attracting lots of women, meaning we need to expand from our one room service.
Since 2010 over 54% of domestic violence services have been cut. Ultimately, domestic violence and abuse services need to have ring fenced funding from the government. In order to prevent the 2 women that die a week from domestic violence our services need sufficient funding. However until a change of government we are asking that the community support us. Until we can establish bigger funding pots we need donations to bridge our financial gaps.
