    Story

We are now back! See below for our updates and pics...

    The Challenge.

The team will have the gruelling task of crossing tundra, bogs, glaciers, dense forest and river rapids during their journey from the Swedish wilderness to the Norwegian Sea, 150 kilometers away.

Northern Sweden's Sarek and Padjelanta national parks make up the remotest area remaining in all of Europe, containing wildlife including moose, bears, wolves, eagles and, the greatest inspiration... lynx.

With no roads, signposts or trails and almost no human influence of any description, Sarek is without doubt a desolate place. The team will use map and compass, along with the morale boost of each member's 'luxury item' (including whisky, chocolate, cigars and, less conventionally, a drone...), and a decent helping of sheer grit to make it through to Norway. If something goes wrong... well... let's cross that bridge when we get to it.

    The Cause.

The Lynx UK Trust is dedicated to reintroducing the Eurasian lynx to Britain in order to restore an iconic species which was wiped out by the influence of man. Native to the UK and no threat to humans, the British Lynx disappeared from our forests around 700AD due to habitat destruction and human persecution. Reintroduction will help control deer overpopulation, thus protecting and regenerating forest ecosystems, whilst bringing financial benefits to deprived rural regions through the project's huge ecotourism potential.

Founded in 2014 by a group of experienced conservationists and scientists, with specialisms in wild felines, genetics, species reintroductions and wildlife education, and experience working on conservation projects worldwide, the Lynx UK Trust has already made huge progress in putting reintroduction into the public agenda.

100% of all donations go to the Trust, so support the team in their gruelling challenge - donate today!

Adam, James, Jon, Jonny, Lawrence and Mark.

Sarek truly is a desolate and unforgiving place - this we now know. For this reason we were forced to make a safety call on the fourth day of our expedition and change the route, cutting the trip to eight days rather than twelve. As such, we didn't achieve what we set out to do, although we did suffer a brutal 48 hour stint of non-stop rain, we fought through endless thickets of willow and aspen, we crossed countless rivers, and we reached the very heart of Sarek. Keep donating - we still have 14 days to hit out target!

Check out the route! The more I look over this, the more nervous I get... Let's hope all of that planning pays off when we get our boots on the ground.

Looking forward to hearing stories about the expedition, in particular James' unerring optimism and firm belief that you were making "great progress" even though facts suggested the contrary.

A great cause and I will watch this project in Kielder develop with interest. All the best for your expedition in Northern Sweden and I look forward to hearing about it when you're back. Best Wishes.
