Story
SAVE CHESTER is a group of Southend-on-Sea residents and tree experts who have united to preserve street trees in the area. Over a decade, the removal of 2,969 trees has caused concern among the community.

Our main focus currently is the preservation of a 150-year-old London Plane tree, known as 'Chester', located on Chichester Road. This magnificent tree is under threat of being cut down from two directions – by the Council's Highways Department and a proposed 14-storey development on the adjacent site.
Despite overwhelming public support to preserve Chester, we have launched a JustGiving page to raise funds for legal advice. In early April, we presented the council with a petition that has gathered over 31,000 signatures.
We kindly ask for your support to ensure that the opinions of local residents are heard and that the Council takes the necessary steps to protect this significant and valuable tree. If you can afford to, please contribute to our fundraiser to help ensure Chester's preservation for present and future generations.
Also, we'd love to stay connected and have you be a part of our Save Chester community. Join our Facebook Group to keep in touch, get involved, and share your ideas with us! SaveChester.org
