Story

Mylene and I will be running 10 marathons in 10 days from 25 November and we want to raise money to save our estate and raise awareness.

Lambeth Council want to demolish the historic Central Hill Estate which was designed by award-winning architect and town planner Rosemary Stjernstedt. Finished in 1975, the estate (complete with its own nuclear bunker) was intended to preserve the skyline of the fresh air borough, providing fine views into central London as well as outside spaces for its tenants.

This well established, diverse, but extremely cohesive community want to maintain what they have got and improve it for the benefit of all in the area, they do not want to see it demolished. Whilst spending thousands and thousands of pounds trying to coerce the residents through propaganda and sham consultations into giving up the estate, the council have given no support to community-led alternatives.

An alternative plan by the Architects for Social Housing, which has resident support could provide answers to the challenges as stated by the council if promoted and funded appropriately.

This past week Cressingham Gardens, another Lambeth estate in a very similar position has been to court to challenge the council again. hopefully they will win yet another victory against the council; we need to follow in their footsteps.

The residents will need a lot of financial support to help fight the council and to fund alternative plans. Most residents believe that the estate should be brought up to an appropriate level of repair as it has been neglected over a number of years by the landlord (Lambeth's Labour Council).

Thank you for your support

7 down and 3 to go! This is sooo hard and I need to sleep now. On the positive side Mylene beat me again and we both came in under 5hr 30mins. Amazing that we have 44% of our total already - thank you to everyone who has sponsored us - it means a lot and will get us around I hope!

Day 6, the St Andrews Day Challenge again completed by us both in under 6 hours. It was freezing at Margate all day today; the frost never fully cleared; that said it was beautifully sunny with very little wind. Definitely the hardest day yet for me, with a dodgy tummy and legs that have never felt so heavy! The course was also over 27 miles long and the support from the volunteers and organisers was excellent. News from Central Hill is that the council has now deferred its decision until January at the earliest :(

We are now half way through the challenge and both of us are holding up well despite coughs and seriously achy legs. All 5 marathons have been completed in under 6 hours by us both and we are really grateful to everyone who has sponsored us - including some strangers that I met on a train last night who donated £40 :) We have been blessed with pretty good weather, as you can see today was perfect! Thank you to everyone who has donated it really helps to know that we are being supported in what we are doing - this really is not easy!!

We are running 10 marathons in 10 days and want to help save the Central Hill Estate in Crystal Palace. By the end of the challenge Mylene will have run 52 marathons in less than 52 weeks and I've done some silly things before, but never more than 4 marathons consecutively.
