Story
Our Mission:
Save Our Green Space (SOGS) is a community group formed to oppose a housing development threatening our town’s last wild, traffic-free greenspace. This area is central to our community’s heritage, biodiversity, and wellbeing—and it's at risk of being lost forever. Our mission is to protect this vital land and hold decision-makers to account.
In the face of a climate and ecological emergency, protecting natural spaces has never been more urgent. Local and national policies claim to prioritise the environment, yet developments continue to be approved without proper scrutiny, bypassing critical checks and legal obligations.
Why We Need Your Help:
We’ve invested hundreds of hours learning planning policies, consulting experts, and building a strong case based on policy breaches, flawed ecological surveys, and misleading claims around the Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport and housing plans. Despite clear objections from our solicitor and the public, the Highland Council Planning Committee approved the development for a second time on March 12th, 2025. We are now left with no choice but to seek a Judicial Review to challenge this decision.
Why This Matters:
This isn’t just about our town. It’s about setting a precedent for protecting greenfield sites across Scotland. This case exposes a broader issue: continued development that ignores established policy and protections and the devastating social and environmental consequences that follow.
