    Story

We are Tameside Live Society and it is our intention to set up an art centre in the former Majestic cinema in Ashton Under-Lyne. The first stage is to use the large foyer as an art cafe which will play host to musicians, film makers, artists and all types of creative groups.
When the cafe has been established, we hope to then take on other sections of the building. These will be converted into a design studio, music rehearsal & recording space, music venue, digital cinema and conference centre.
Our project will bring a historically important landmark back into use and create a community hub for the people of Tameside and surrounding areas. We hope to reinstate the large auditorium and use it once again to host big acts and productions. Due to the recent austerity cuts, there are very few government funded youth and elderly groups in the area. This means that many of our residents are isolated and have very few options to socialise. Children & Young Adults with special needs are also lacking activity groups and we intend to run free art, film and music sessions as our contribution to the community.
The initial £25,000 will go towards the initial set up costs of the cafe and it is imperative that this happens soon, due to the uncertainty of the buildings future. We offer free entry into selected events and your name on a recognition board to anyone who donates to the appeal. Thank you for taking the time to read our plans. If we are unsuccessful in securing the majestic we will put the money towards creating an arts centre in the borough of Tameside for all to enjoy.
