My Granddaughters school, Smannell and Enham Church of England Primary School, lies in the beautiful Test Valley area of Hampshire. The school grounds reflect the rural surroundings; with many varieties of trees changing with the seasons to provide us a rich stimulating environment. This is marvellous for playing in on sunny summer days. However, the playground is a bit bare.

The school are trying to improve the play facilities for the children by installing some adventure play equipment, this is likely to cost around £12000. The advantages are many and varied for example climbing and crawling improves gross motor skills which has an impact on fine motor skills such as handwriting.

I will be undertaking the National 100 Mile Time Trial (bicycle race) on the 9th June. Normally the personal challenge is good enough - but this time - after cycling for nearly 50 years I will be riding this race to try and help the school raise money for a better playground for the children.
