Story
Hi I'm James, I'm 1 of 3 people organising an event in memory of Carl Shepherd. (Shepsk8)
Carl spent 22 years as an infantry man/signals platoon with the Staffordshire regiment and reached the rank of WO2 (warrant officer class 2).He served in the gulf war in 1990, Belfast, Canada, Kenya, Hong Kong and 2 tours of Iraq around 2004/2006. He retired from the army in 2009 and worked for Scottish gas for 4 years.
He fell ill in January 2015 with suspected mild pneumonia, diagnosed over the phone with pulmonary fibrosis in April, went onto full time oxygen in October, lung transplant assessment was due January but Carl deteriorated so fast it was brought forward to December, the week before Christmas. He was accepted onto the lung transplant list on the 23rd December . He deteriorated rapidly was hospitalised, passed away on the 9th January 2016.
Carl also struggled with ptsd and his way of coping was through his love of roller skating. He used to skate as a child and lacing up his boots was his happiness in adult life. His two daughters now carry on Carl's love of skating.
I'm trying to raise £3000 help bring a few of the world's best roller skaters to Carl's home town of Perth Scotland for 1 days event in his memory.
Carl had a passion for roller skating that many of us skaters have, a feeling of happiness, a feeling of freedom, escapism, fitness. Ultimately rolling around meeting new friends and people who also share the same passion all whilst having biggest smile on our faces.
Skating is 1 of the best ways to exercise, it's low impact to the body and it's something the whole family can enjoy together.
Carl Would be first to buy us all a drink tea, coffee or a beer so for the price of a tea, coffee, beer help me raise enough to fulfil 1 of his dreams for his family and home town of Perth.
I've never done this just giving thing before but I've donated to plenty so your turn to help me.
As little as a £1 or as much as you can.
Thank you x
