Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
I am currently organising a karaoke event to raise money for Alzheimer's but local businesses can ony donate so much. I am hoping for some help so i can buy a few big prizes for the raffle (short breaks away via discount sites for example) and some decorations for the venue.
My nan has had Alzhiemers for a number of years - noone truly knows when it started but all we know now is that she is a shell of the person she used to be.
My grandad cared for her (as you would) until he couldn't manage anymore and reluctantly agreed that she should go into a home. This triggered my grandad's illness which seemed to happen very quickly. A week after my nan was rehomed in a care facility my grandad became seriously unwell.
He spent a lot of time in hospital from this point on. he seemed to go in and sadly wasn't out very long. My dad and aunt had to make a decision of turning his life support machine off as he was in a coma and they didn't know why.
Amazingly, the very same day we were all ready to say goodbye; grandad woke up and from then on was coherent and you could have a conversation with him for much of the time he was unwell in hospital, he often asked to go and see my nan but due to his condition (he was in a wheelchair) we couldn't take him.
After a few months of shifting hospitals to cater for his different needs as his illness developed from one thing to another he was finally reunited with my nan in her care home as they had a room come free for him.
By this time, nan was sleeping a lot due to her medication but they managed to get her in to see my grandad a couple of times within the week he was there. The first time he recognised her and used her maiden name - she didn't recognise him.
The second time, they recognised each other and my nan got on my grandads bed to hug him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. It was that night my grandad passed away.
