Story
A few years ago, Sita Dommett was awarded funding to go to Foxes Academy! (http://foxesacademy.ac.uk/)
Foxes is a specialist residential catering college and training hotel for young adults with learning disabilities. Young people come to train from all over the country after leaving school, learning everything in the hospitality trade from reception skills to working in house keeping, food preparation or food service. While, nationally, only 6.8 per cent of school leavers with special needs go on to get employment, a staggering 80 per cent of the young people leaving Foxes Academy get jobs!
Sita is now in her second year, and loving every minute! Watching Sita and her mum, Deborah, work so hard to get Sita’s place and funding over the past few years has been inspirational. It seems like it is a good time to celebrate the achievements of Sita and all the students at Foxes, and have a bit of fun! In this spirit, as a family friend, I decided to try and raise some money for Foxes and have signed up for the Singapore Half Marathon in December, 2016.
Not starting with the best CV credentials - NO previous running experience!, I took my inspiration from Foxes Vision – to be passionate “about what we do” and to aim “to be the best we can be”. Beginning with ‘1 minute run/2 minute walk’ sessions, training for 20 weeks (6 weeks to go!) I’m keeping all my fingers and toes crossed and seem to be on track to complete my ‘couch-to-half marathon’ plan. With your help and encouragement, I will, first, finish the race!!! But, more importantly, be able to present all the sponsorship I raise to Foxes Academy. Any donations that you can make in support of this amazing college and educational programme would be very gratefully received along with any any messages of encouragement (just got my start time – 5am!)
The aim at Foxes Academy is: “To inspire our young people to go into the world with skills, confidence and a passion to succeed”.
Thank you so much in advance.
