Story
Every day our team of Daisy Birthing teachers provide classes for local women designed to increase an awareness of active birth principles. We know that an active labour and birth is beneficial to both mother and baby. Yet we are also aware that there is still only a tiny percentage of women giving birth under the care of the Ipswich NHS trust that are choosing to stay mobile during their labour.
We would like to raise enough money to help fund more equipment that can be used by the Ipswich NHS midwives to encourage and enable more women to have active labours, at home and in hospital settings.
There is a wealth of equipment available from birth pools in a box that can be filled by a standard home hot water tank to inflatable chairs designed to help women find more comfortable positions during their labours. Environment and positioning play a crucial role in the progress of a labour and if we can increase the options available as standard practise by providing better facilities we will be able to help make a tangible change at a local level.
We are looking at this as an ongoing project where our community can work to support the local midwifery service. Back in May we raised £370 when a group of Daisy Teachers and Parents ran the Woodbridge 10Km road race. We would like to add to that over the next year to raise a grand total of £2,000.
The transition into parenthood defines our lives. It is a memory that will last a life time, it should be an empowering journey for every family where informed choices can be made every step of the way and where a woman can access as many options as possible, help us provide more options for all women in Suffolk!
