I was introduced by chance to a homeless shelter almost one year ago, in central London. I made a visit to see how I could help. They appeared to fall under the radar for external visitors, someone to chat to, receive a little attention from and laugh with, and decided to make it my project.
I called it the 'Sunday Lunch Club' making Sunday lunch every 6/8 weeks for around 40 'guests'. Its the most rewarding, thought provoking and life changing thing I have ever done. I have learnt what and who really matters in life.
I gather helper volunteers, encouraging parents to bring their kids (age 10+), I buy all the food and often gifts which the volunteers contribute towards the cost and we cook, often assisted by the 'guests'. Chatting to the 'guests' is paramount, I introduced bingo to bring everyone together - they love it.
Christmas is fast approaching, I am organising a special Christmas party for the shelter. I would like to give everyone a small hamper of delicious treats and make their Christmas as memorable as yours will be.
