Story
Julia Grigg
Julia has been a pupil with us since she started with us age 4 in reception, her family are a local family who farm in Monkleigh. Julia is now 10.
Julia collapsed at home just before Easter and initially was taken to Barnstaple hospital and then air lifted to the children’s hospital in Bristol.
Julia had a bleed on the brain and was in a coma for a long time, she had to undergo several operations to reduce the swelling and then an operation to repair the damage -
It transpired that Julia had a genetic birth defect that resulted in the veins in her head going in the wrong directions and being twisted together, these had to be removed and with them part of her brain.
Julia is now home and is making a remarkable recovery. She returned to school in September, however she becomes fatigued very quickly, she gets emotional and struggles to deal with too many people and to process too much information.
She will need regular time out in a quiet room away from the hustle and bustle of the classroom to rest and recover. Without this she will not be able to cope with school.
We are a small school and have no quiet spaces that we can use. Therefore we are looking to build a purpose built summer house style room, that we can fit out as a sensory room, with lighting seating and other sensory equipment to help Julia.
We would be very grateful for any money you could give us towards this invaluable room. We also have other children with a range of needs who will also be able to benefit from this room over many years to come.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our Story
