Susan’s running 2 Marathons to give Alyssa a voice –
Alyssa was diagnosed with Autism on February 25th 2013 at the age of 2.
She is now 6 years old and still non-verbal, she uses Picture Exchange Communication (PECS) to communicate her needs, or she will take an adult to what she needs and use her fingers to point, this can all be a bit of a guessing game at times (especially to others who are not with her on a daily basis) Her PECS folder is a small folder she can carry around with a variety of symbols that are laminated and velcro’d on to her folder, enabling her to use the strip to request ‘i want’ and add a picture, as you can imagine this is very limited to what symbols are available on her folder, also unfortunately over time the symbols become lost or fall apart so to have an IPad mini (small enough to be carried around) solely containing the APP Proloquotogo (which is basically PECS on a computer and it is also recognised by her SALT) would enable her to have her own voice and unlimited choices of things she may wish to request, it would make her life easier, she could communicate her needs and wants!!! It could be life changing for her and others caring for her.
Our friend Susan has the pleasure of working at Alyssa’s school and asked if she could run the London & Stirling Marathons for Alyssa to raise the money to give her a voice, we cannot thank Susan enough for thinking of our little girl!
