Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.

Susan’s running 2 Marathons to give Alyssa a voice –
Alyssa was diagnosed with Autism on February 25th 2013 at the age of 2.
She is now 6 years old and still non-verbal, she uses Picture Exchange Communication (PECS) to communicate her needs, or she will take an adult to what she needs and use her fingers to point, this can all be a bit of a guessing game at times (especially to others who are not with her on a daily basis) Her PECS folder is a small folder she can carry around with a variety of symbols that are laminated and velcro’d on to her folder, enabling her to use the strip to request ‘i want’ and add a picture, as you can imagine this is very limited to what symbols are available on her folder, also unfortunately over time the symbols become lost or fall apart so to have an IPad mini (small enough to be carried around) solely containing the APP Proloquotogo (which is basically PECS on a computer and it is also recognised by her SALT) would enable her to have her own voice and unlimited choices of things she may wish to request, it would make her life easier, she could communicate her needs and wants!!! It could be life changing for her and others caring for her.
Our friend Susan has the pleasure of working at Alyssa’s school and asked if she could run the London & Stirling Marathons for Alyssa to raise the money to give her a voice, we cannot thank Susan enough for thinking of our little girl!
Thank you for taking the time to read Alyssa’s story and also thank you for any donations, we are very humbled by the support of our friends and family, as always, on this Autism journey for our wee family.

So that's it, both marathons have been completed by Susan, we were at the finish line for her on Sunday and it was lovely watching Alyssa realise it was her photo on Susan's running top! The massive grand total of £1542 was raised, this will enable us to purchase any equipment as soon as Alyssa's assessment has been completed by a member of the SCTCI team, this assessment is being done in school & at home on 13th June 2017, once it's been done we will update you all again. Again Susan, we cannot thank you enough!!xxx

Update time. Susan smashed her 1st marathon on Sunday in London, we were all watching and supporting her from Scotland! Today Alyssa is getting referred to SCTCI (Scottish Centre of Technology for the Communication Impaired) where we will hopefully be put in touch with a specialised therapist who will be able to advise us on which apps would be best for Alyssa at her current level to use as her 'voice' this is the start of an amazing journey for our beautiful little girl, it won't happen overnight, but I will keep you updated! Thanks again.xx
