    Story

After several trips to Morocco and seeing life first hand, we are looking to raise money that will go towards providing basic education for children in some of the ‘more’ remote villages in the mountains of the Jabel Sahara region of southern Morocco. Please read our story...

    Our story

During our recent trip (July 2016) we meet Lahcen El-khorf, an inspirational young man who is doing all he can to provide education for children in the villages near the one he grew up in particularly, education for girls (which has often been overlooked in many remote regions) – this is an extract from a book covering an education initiative in the Atlas Mountains ‘Educate a boy, you educate a man, Educate a girl you educate a family, a community, a nation’.

Lahcen was fortunate enough to live in a village that has access to education and at 21 he is now studying in a city 5 hours from his home village. Whilst studying he has also spearheaded a project that has already built 2 schools in the local area and is working on a third in the village we visit and love called Tajaleche. To date the Moroccan government has not supported his initiative but will if he can justify his efforts.

This is where you can help, we need your money to help support Lahcen’s project.

All money raised will go to towards:
1: building local schools (repurposing unused houses)
2: supply the schools with kit and educational aids
3: gaining credibility from the government – once this is in place it is likely - that the government will provide additional support, such as providing fully qualified teachers that will live in the remote villages
4: Plus other projects and initiatives at Tajaleche, such as getting a reliable water supply into the village

    huge thanks

To get a qualified teacher to live at the village from the Ministry will cost £6000; currently a local boy has offered to teach the children basic skills, but he is not qualified and only completed a few years of education himself.
