    Story

Terri and Franny will be undertaking a personal challenge this November, hiking the 'W' in Chile's Torres del Paine in Patagonia.  We are planning to undertake the 100km, 5-6 day trek in just 4 days and 3 nights. On top of this we will be carrying all of our equipment from food, cooker, tent to sleeping bags, as we will be camping.

To thank our hosts and show our appreciation of Patagonias breathtaking beauty we would like to leave Chile with a small token of support from ourselves, and our friends and relatives. We are therefore fundraising for two local charities, the Fundacion Chol Chol supporting the indigenous Mapuche people and their artisan crafts, as well as the Agrupacion Medio Ambiente Torres del Paine (AMA), who run conservation and research projects in the Torres del Paine National Park.

We will be splitting our raised amount 50/50 between these charities. Unfortunately, with them being small they do not have dedicated JustGiving pages (or similar) so we have to fundraise this way but you can be assured that your funds will reach these organisations.

Thank you so much for any donation you are able to make :)

This will be our route. Maybe now you can see why it is called the "W". The route is literally the shape of a W. Most of the first day is taken up by travelling to the park. We will be going by horse for a few hours on our 2nd day. The third day will be the hardest with 12 hours of solid trekking but our last day will be crowned with an amazing kayaking trip alongside the Glacier Grey. Fingers crossed the weather plays nice and everything goes according to plan! We are extremely excited :)))

Fundacion Chol Chol: "Comparing greater Chilean society with the rural indigenous population, the disparity between the two groups is striking. The level of access to income and social resources such as education, medical attention, and employment is drastically different for the indigenous and non-indigenous sectors of the population. When considering a wider range of social statistics, the Mapuche continue to fall below national average". Chol Chol run a Programme for training & resources supporting the weave production of Mapuche women.
