I am running the Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday February 26th 2017. In doing so, I would like to give something back, so I will be running to raise £500 for St Aubyns Nursing Home, (35 Priestlands Park Rd, Sidcup DA15 7HJ).
St Aubyns is the care home that my Nana spent her last part of her life in, untill the very end. St Aubyns looked after my Nana with so much care and attention, but also to us a family. In the last week there was a number of us that would be camped in my Nanna's room, so that we could hold her and talk to her, sharing moments that we had - for me that was priceless. My Nana was a massive part of my life and up bringing, so to share the last moments with her providing comfort, I can never be more thankful for that.
I have never run a marathon or half marathon, but I do like running, so I have set myself the target to complete the course in under 2 hours. This will be no easy feat, but I know on every wet cold morning, up every steep hill, and every time my legs want to stop, I will have the inspiration of my Nana, to use that good Irish spirit within me, to keep digging deep. I do not know failure, and I will not fail with the Sub 2 hours.
My Nana for me was a a lot different to other nans, and I spent a lot of time around her. She taught me how to bet, and made me the gambler I am today. So with that, there is another guy at my work, Jamie Bull, who has since signed up to the same race. We have a bet between ourselves that the one out of the 2 with the slowest time will donate £100 to the other persons charity. So in the name of charity, this has become a race between #TheBeardVsTheBull.
I hope that you can help me on the other target, and help me raise £500 for the care home, so that other patients or families can feel the benefit of the wonderful work that the team provide.
Anyway that you can help, will be Appreciated,
