Gareth’s Story
At Ipswich Bus Shelter C.I.C., we believe that everyone deserves dignity, warmth, and compassion — especially during life’s most difficult moments.
Every week, we meet people who are homeless, often struggling with addiction and always facing overwhelming challenges. Some are individuals. Some are families. All are human beings who need meaningful support, understanding, and hope for better times ahead.

Through our outreach service in Ipswich, we operate CHEYS, our converted double-decker bus. From this bus, we provide far more than basic essentials. Yes, we offer clothing, toiletries, access to a shower and toilet, hot food and drinks — but just as importantly, we offer conversation, guidance, and a sense of belonging. This is often underestimated. It’s hard to measure, but experience tells us this is the single most important piece of the puzzle. This is where real change happens. It’s about restoring dignity, building trust, and reminding people that they matter. For many of the people we support, a simple conversation can be more powerful as a hot meal — because loneliness and isolation is just as deadly.
So we continue to work closely with a network of local organisations to make sure those who come to us can be guided towards the right support and longer-term help. It’s a huge combined effort and we absolutely couldn’t do it without the support of many of you members of the community. For those who do keep showing up and offering support — I’m forever grateful.
