Weʼre raising £52,000 to help fund the new Tintern Village Hall Playground Project
Don't have time to donate right now?
We are fundraising to help redevelop and renew the outdoor playground and community garden at Tintern Village Hall.
We have a great community here, with many young families living in the village and many more moving to join us. We are based in a beautiful area of the Wye Valley, with fabulous views across the playing field to historic Tintern Abbey, and we receive many visitors to our Village Hall play area and gardens throughout the year. Local children and young visitors from far and wide enjoy our Village Hall playground and use it all year round. At the fantastic annual Tintern Fete each summer, thousands of people use our playground and garden to relax and enjoy themselves.
Currently the upkeep of the playground and any improvements we make is paid for by our fundraising and carried out by a (very) small team of volunteers from the village - so we need your help!
Our aim is to redevelop the playground to make it an exciting and vibrant space for the children to play! We recently had to say goodbye to two sets of our lovely swings - which had been installed by the villagers for the Queen’s coronation in 1953 and were well-loved by generations of locals. We need to bring the playground up to scratch by replacing those historic swings and the old wooden cabin playframe, bringing in a new see-saw, installing new safety matting under the equipment and erecting a safety fence to separate the play area from the car parking area. We want to explore some creative and exciting ideas to bring in new play equipment to encourage more interactive play and more sporting activities and to bring in more picnicking/seating areas. We also aim to continue developing our garden into a relaxing and tranquil place which gives community groups the chance to join in, grow their own veg and take pride in our local environment. Our aim is to turn our outdoor space into a village hub for all our community and visitors!
We now have a fabulous playground design from Wicksteed, with a great centrepiece climbing unit with special Abbey-inspired panels. The whole new playground will be coloured in bright yellow and green to support our village football team, Tintern Abbey FC!
To fund our playground we need to raise a total of £52,000 (including the VAT).
We have raised just over £10,000 so far, so we are about 1/4 of the way towards our total. This includes lots of generous fundraising and donations from our local community, and a very kind commitment from Tintern Community Council to pay for the whole new See-Saw in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee for the community. We will be continuing our fundraising with events and all sorts of community involvement, as well as applying for grants, and we also ask for your generous donations here.
If you have been a visitor to our playground or you would like to help our project, please donate generously!
All the funds raised will be used by Tintern Village Hall Management Committee (which is a registered charity number 505037) for this project. Thanks so much for all your help.

Thanks for the Tintern Trail - I've taken a few copies to give to visitors and we look forward to trying it ourselves. The Village show was a great success (and the door prize fantastic)!
