Story
Peter Van der Gucht was a resident of South Craven for the last 40 years of his life. A passionate advocate for reducing the human impact on the planet, Peter was keen to be remembered through the planting of native trees and wildflower meadows to support diverse ecosystems and local beauty spots for generations to come.
Following his death we are raising money to give to local community interest group YouGreenCIC (https://yorgreencic.org.uk/) to purchase fruit trees and other native trees to be planted as part of a community woodland in Cononley Woodside over the coming year.
Peter spent a happy childhood living on a Suffolk farm with a fruit orchard and he was dedicated to supporting environmental issues as well as being a keen walker throughout his life with family and our dogs. If you would like to make a contribution towards the trees in his memory m it would be very welcomed. Craven has the lowest tree numbers per km2 for all of West and North Yorkshire (5.4% of land compared to the UK national average of 13%). Contributions will go directly towards this important cause.
Donations over £1000 will also go towards to management and upkeep of the saplings and
woodland area as they establish in the first few years. We hope this will be an area people can visit and enjoy in the future.
