Story
My name is Trish and I have a very rare neuromuscular condition which affects all my muscles, and so I am a full time wheelchair user
When I became disabled 6 years ago, I was looking for a sport to do, and I got into wheelchair basketball. I wasnt very good at it! The more my disability progressed the worse at it I got. One of my teammates played wheelchair rugby, so I gave it a go. I tried to stick to basketball, but as the reality of how my disability had progressed, I switched sports.
I play for a team called Solent Sharks and we‘ve had the best season ever! This is my 3rd season playing wheelchair rugby but my second with this team! I was made Captain, and the team just went unbeaten in all 12 games making us undefeated champions of the GBWR WR5’s Championship!
Next year we are playing in the Premiership, with that comes a jump in the competiveness and the level of sport.
I am currently playing in a chair that doesnt fit me properly, has had to be welded 3 times, needs a pillow behind the back support plus foam and duct tape to raise the front of the seat to put me in a better position and had to have a plate welded to the front of it as I had some broken toes when a chair got between the front poles and crushed the ‘toe protector’ over my toes! ouch is the right word as I can still feel my feet!
So I‘ve set up the page to help raise funds for a proper fitting rugby wheelchair so that I can compete next season!
Thank you for reading and especially I thank you if you do choose to help!
