Story
Rated as a Category 5 super typhoon, Typhoon Haima hit the northern region of Luzon, Philippines - the second typhoon to make landfall in the week alone. Sustaining winds of up to 315 km/hr, the typhoon has displaced 15,000 people into evacuation centers, and claimed 13 fatalities. The UCLU Filipino Society is raising funds on behalf of local NGO, Gawad Kalinga, for the victims of Typhoon Haima.
Gawad Kalinga is aiming to distribute 10,000 emergency food packs to victims in the provinces of Ilocos Norte and Cagayan. Each emergency pack is priced at Php 200, or $5 per pack. With your small donation, we can truly empower these typhoon victims to rebuild their lives as survivors!
Gawad Kalinga, meaning to "give care" in English, is a Philippine-based foundation established 2003, and works to transform slums into productive communities. Through engaging all sectors of society, Gawad Kalinga aims to restore human dignity, and promote community empowerment and access to mainstream opportunities and services from the bottom-up. Gawad Kalinga's over-arching goal is to bring 5 million families out of poverty by 2024. The Foundation currently works with over 2,000 communities and has been recognized as the 2006 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee & 2012 Skoll Awardee for Social Entrepreneurship.
