A few years ago, we ran a fundraising campaign to help Arush, a young artist of low caste living in Kathmandu, Nepal, create a shoe repair and shoe shine business to support him in his work as a Thanka painter and to provide basic needs for his family. Last week we received this message from Arush:

"The municipal police department has taken my toolbox because I'm not allowed to sit on the street and I don't have a license; please help me."

He has had to return to Punjab to get support from his wider family but this is not sustainable. He urgently needs funds to replace stolen goods, pay for a licence to trade, as well as food and rent for his family: his wife, Nisha, and two young children: Shibha, 3, and Aayan, 5 months.

If we raise just £500, it will replace his stolen goods and provide him and his family with all that they need for the next three months. This will allow Arush, through his own hard work, to continue to try and break this cycle of poverty that he has been born into.
