Weʼve raised £1,200 to a marathon for VAAR (Vietnam Animal Aid and Rescue) to stop dogs and cats without ANY pain medications or sedation undergo surgeries.

Hội An, Quang Nam Province, Vietnam
Funded on Monday, 23rd January 2017

Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

I graduated in Poland in 2012 and decided to head out to South East Asia to volunteer at an animal shelter in Thailand. Initial cultural shock was immense. I realized that the World is an enormous place and that Asia has something in it that speaks to me on a level that no other place did.

A lot changed in my life in 2015. I became a vegan, a runner and I started working for VAAR.

Now it seems VAAR needs help so I decided to run a marathon and help raising funds. The big day is the 15th of January 2017 when I am to show up at the start line of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) Marathon.

But you probably have some questions...

    Why should I help?

Because a donation is not much to you and it means a full bowl of food, shelter and medical treatment when needed for VAAR's rescues!

    What is VAAR?

Vietnam Animal Aid and Rescue is an organization that operates in Vietnam and is focused on helping animals by numerous undertakings.

    What does VAAR do?

    1) Education, education, education- VAAR believes that the easiest way to a better and kinder society is education of the youth. This is why VAAR runs education programs for local children.
    2) VAAR also educates local vets who lack experience and knowledge. Patients in animal clinics in Vietnam are often misdiagnosed, given wrong drugs and do not survive even the simplest surgeries due to dirty procedures. They also do not receive ANY pain medications when undergoing surgeries or when they struggle with injuries. Sometimes they are operated on WITHOUT any anaesthetic and they remain wide awake throughout procedures.
    3) VAAR runs a vet clinic where all animals receive the best treatment in the country. No matter if owners can afford it or not.
    4) VAAR runs a shelter with 25 dogs, 25 cats, 2 chickens, 2 ducks and a vegan mascot- pig called Master Julian.
    5) VAAR promotes vegan lifestyle.

Hey. I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported me. Thanks to you we can move forward with our sterilization project pay for supplies to keep us going. My run turned out to be the toughest marathon of the ones I did. It was my first one in Vietnam so high temperature, humidity and, lets face it, not enough training made it difficult. I crossed the finish line knowing we can keep going thanks to you. THANK YOU!

We are nearly there! Less than a week to go. I have to admit, with all the recent work we did in Myanmar I have not been training as I should. I am only hoping for a safe run, not aiming to beat any personal bests, especially because there is A HILL. Last year I ran 10k in Saigon and let me tell you this bridge is something. Please support our fight for the animals in South-East Asia. Thank you so much!

Storm Tokage has been battering for the last 3 days so I had to get busy in a gym. One of the local resorts has a small gym good enough. Treadmill 10k! Cannot wait to see the streets of Saigon full of marathon supporters.
